Property Standards and Home Improvements

The Town of Kirkland Lake Property Standards By-Law regulates the maintenance and occupancy of properties located within the Town. Common problems include heavy undergrowth and noxious weeds, rubbish, garbage, litter and debris, old vehicles, run down buildings and sub-standard services such as plumbing, electrical, etc.

Home Improvements

Home renovations and improvements or indeed any kind of work on a building within the Town of Kirkland Lake may require a building permit from the municipality. Such permits, issued by the Building Division of the Planning and Development Services Department, are necessary to ensure that zoning requirements, fire and structural safety standards and other building standards meet the requirements of the Ontario Building Code Act.  Please note that it is the homeowner's responsibility to ensure that a building permit is obtained when required. You may authorize your contractor or designer to apply for the permit, but the owner should ensure that they have the permit prior to any work starting.

Enforcement of the Property Standards By-Law and the issuing of building permits is done by the Planning and Building Division of the Department of Physical Services. For more information, contact:
